I was driving my car and all of the sudden I could feel it was going to die on me, everytime it would put my foot on the break it would sputter so I pulled over and it died. I was able to restart and get it home by driving with my foot on the gas and break (it was only a mile) and the check engine light came on. My mom told me to change the air filter, it was dirty, I did and the car immediately started and I was able to drive it around the block. I drove it to the gas station and put 93 octane in and drove home, the check engine light was still on. The next day I drove it around the block and it stalled, same sputter. I went to drive it to the mechanic the next day the battery was dead, not even lights, competely dead. My friend charged the battery overnight put it back in the car, it sparked a little on the negative terminal, would not start, tried it again same clicking noise, third time was a charm and it started, let it run. Two hours later I drove it a short while, had the same trouble starting it but got it started, went to the store got it started again no problem drove home felt a little sputter but it did not stall. What could be wrong, any idea?

Make sure battery terminals clean and tight
After reinstalling the recharged battery did check engine light return
and if so need to have it scanned for codes
I would check it for tune up and check for vacuum leaks

The check engine light went off and did not come back on but it did sputter so of course I am worried about driving it.I cleaned under the battery where it sits with baking soda and distilled water. And cleaned the terminals but they were really rusty. Oh and the battery was empty my friend filled it with distilled water he said that was bad. Then he charged it and it kept the charge all day before we put it back in.I am worried the check engine light will come back on or it will stall again

At this point with no check engine light on
no way of telling what happened and or if its going to happen again
should have it checked for tune up
and if the light return scan for codes
