1995 Nissan Altima My car shut off on me twice

Hello, my car has shut off on me twice. It's not the battery, because the radio and windows work when it is shut down. It first did it after I was driving on the e-way. The car did this sort putting thing and then when I got off the e-way it shut down and it took several tries to get it started again. I was able to drive it for the week. From time to time when I accelerate it would act like it was going to shut down, but it never did. Today I drove the car arround about 3 times and then went to the store and when I came out it wouldn't start. It went vrroom, vrroom, vrroom but woudn't start. I kept trying and then it finally started. I put the car in drive and it shut right back off. I kept trying to turn it on and then it finally started again. I waited and then drove the car home. What do you think that could be? My engine light is now on.
