Can I replace the bearing by removing the pads and rotor, or do I have to take the hub assembly off and have the bearing placed in by a shop?

You will need to remove the knuckle from the car, then from the front side remove the snap ring, then put knuckle in a vice, and using the right size bearing driver, you can hammer it out...press is recommended to minimze shock to new bearing however!
