1993 Nissan Altima Automatic
I recently bought a 93 Nissan Altima off of a family in the neighborhood when the transmission went in my 93 Ford Taurus. I was told that the taurus would be minimum $3000 dollars with parts and labor and my mechanic suggested just buying another used car (Im a student.. 19 yrs.. just need a set of wheels haha). I decided to go for it and purchased the Altima for $1950, which seemed like a deal because the other two altima's i looked at from that year and a 1995 were 2450 and 2675. The owner's mechanic had just replaced its transmission with a rebuilt transmission last year. My dad had a look at it (knows quite a bit about cars) and said it seemed decent especially for the price. Well.. three months after buying it, my head gasket just went. I was told that THIS repair would be $2000 with labor (1350 for the part) yet i've been looking online and it seems i can get the part for alot cheaper (?) Anyways, my mechanic told me it's a waste to fix it considering how old the car is. But now im stuck, I now have a 93 ford taurus and a 93 nissan altima.. neither of which are running. And I now have no vehicle and no cash for a new one! So my question is.. what would you suggest? Would it be worth it to fix either one of these cars? Or just scrap both for parts.. also does anyone else have any cost ideas?
