Ok, I have a 1989 Nissan 240SX Hatch/Fastback, Standard Transmission, approximatly 180K miles, 4cylinder,

The Problem I am having is with the brake light switch. I installed it and while I was instaling it I notice that where the button is supposed to push up againsed the brake pedal for some strange reason there is a hole! From my understanding with my car the button is always pushed in, until you push the brake wich releases the button and turns the brake light on, rigth now my brake lights are always on. So my question is how do I go about fixing this? Is it a defect or could the person who owned it before I did tamper with it. Sorry I dont have a picture, thank you very much for your time. :D

The problem you're having is the rubber bumpstop that goes in the brake pedal has deteriated and fell out, so therefor its not pressing against the brake switch, and in turn causing your brake lights to stay on all the time.I have the same problem and have not yet found anywhere to buy this rubber bumpstop. If I do find somewhere to get it I will post again and let you know, and I would very much appreciate if you do the same should you find one.

No luck finding a bumpstop for the brake light switch, so I resorted to my own enginuity. Used JB weld to attach a nickel over the hole where the bumpstop was, so the switch would have something to rest on. So far its working great. Pain in the butt to get the nickel in place but it can be done without taking anything apart :)
