i own a nissan 240sx is an sr20det swap with about 60000 miles on it. While at idle the cars rpms stay at about 500-700 rpms, so it idles at a very low rpm. And sometimes when i am driving the car shuts off. When i restart the car it works fine, although the rpms are still very low. What could cause this problem?

try adjusting a idle screw found on the intake side found by the fuel pressure regulator. its very small screw , and not hard to miss. If that fails check to see if your fuel pump is working properly, if not enough pressure obvious low rpms.
