Have only had this vehicle a few weeks. Was driving this morning and noticed the battery indicator light flashing on the dash. Then it would go solid, back to flashing, and so on and so forth. Once parked and sat for a half hour or so, after restarting the vehicle the red devil never even attempted another flicker for I'd say about 30 minutes on a country drive, leisurely pace, then parked for 4 and a half or five hours and still the it was on after restarting. Then drove for about 5 minutes, on a rather winding Southeastern Ohio back road, and then it just disappeared. Well about 15 minutes of bliss then as soon as I pulled into the driveway, in town, side roads and alleys and such, three pretty simultaneous hard 90° right hand turns to wind up in the driveway and boom the light came back on. Well it was shut on and off and never struggled to start. But did turn off all possible power sources available, i.E. Radio, heat, no power windows and manually locking and unlocking the doors. And after a ride up the road with a more mechanically inclined friend than myself once again the light went out, but only for a few minutes and as soon as we made a sharp, 90°, you guessed it right hand turn. Boom! Right back on. Well it was getting dusk and we had driven with the automatic running lights on, not by choice mind you, and still like I said I was feeling confident of his hopeful and optimistic assessment of possibility a loose battery terminal. So on the way back to his house we had to turn on the headlights and taillights and he suggested turning on the radio and heat on, so I obliged, and then all hell broke loose on the dashboard. The abs and airbags started flashing first then more lights were on than not. And then the speedometer starting jumping all over the place, to just eventually quit, then the whole dash went dark, luckily the head lights stayed on, which according to my friend was a good sign that it was just a loose connection. Well made it to his house, was idling fine in the driveway, still just with the headlights and no interior lights at all. I can't confirm or deny if the radio did or would've cut out because when the dashboard went dark I shut it off, along with the heat, so also no positive answer as to if it would've shut down by itself. Well anyway we pop the hood and both of the terminal connection's, on the actual battery itself were not falling off loose but also not tight to either of out liking. So we tightened them down, and jumped my Vue with his truck. And yes it was jump started correctly according to the owners manual and it started right up and the only dash lights showing were the service engine, which had been the case since I test drove it and the battery light. Well we went in the house to let it charge like he suggested and then about 15 minutes later heard it die. Walk out and it's dead and it's raining to beat hell so I told him I'd leave my vehicle there and take my battery home to charge overnight and stop by and throw it in the Vue in the morning. Hopefully he says as long as it gets fully charged and I get the connection's tight the light will bother me no more. But can't find out about that for a few more hours. So sorry for the long post but trying to explain in as much detail possible and hope someone can share some of their Saturn secrets with me. It's my first time owning a Saturn. Thanks so much in advance, any ideas or suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Hello,

If the connections on the battery were as bad as you stated, the battery itself could be failing. Every time your battery is run dead (12 Volts or less) it takes a third (1/3) of your battery's charging capacity with it. So, run a battery dead three times, and for all intent and purposes it's done. At least that's what my Honda of North America instructor told me at Honda University. I have included a link below for load testing your battery. Please go through it.

then I want you to go to this link and go through this guide on testing your alternator, please.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-alternator

Then I want you to double check the wiring coming from the alternator and the battery terminal connections. Also could you please check that all ground straps are secure, tight, and free of corrosion. I have included diagrams in the diagrams below for you. Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex
