New exhaust back box fitted now engine sounds a lot louder

Hi, I've recently had a new back box fitted to my vehicle listed above, because somehow the old one was hanging off. Since having the new back box, the engine/exhaust is a lot louder when speeding up and going up hill. It gets louder as the car fully heats up. I took it back to the place were it was fitted, the technician checked it, and said there are no leaks, he said it takes time for new exhaust back box to bed in and he said overtime the noise will get quieter? Do you think this is correct? Will the loud roaring get quieter?

From the description it sounds like they installed one of the lower end "performance" aftermarket mufflers. These are generally going to be much louder than stock and I'm sorry to tell you that, no the sound will not get quieter or need to "bed in" as there is nothing inside them that will change over time to make it quieter, in fact as it ages it will get louder.
It sounds like the old one may have had a hanger failure or it rusted at the hanger and that would cause it to hang loose. If it was only the hanger that could have been repaired so I hope it was actually rusted out. Without seeing it in person I cannot tell you for sure what they did, but you might want to visit another shop and just ask them about it. Or if there is a dealership around ask them to price the factory quit muffler for it. It will be expensive but it would be quiet.

Oh, that's not good at all. is there anything I could do or buy to make the exhaust muffler quieter?

Not really, the difference in the sound output is inside the muffler with a quiet one having better baffles and internal sound absorption material that the louder ones lack. The only way to make it quieter is to install a muffler that is designed to be quieter.

The main issue is lack of room, if there was enough you could add a second smaller muffler but there isn't room for that on that small car.
