I had a code p4091 on my car so i took it to the car shop. The mechanic changed my spark plugs and oil, reset the computer and said that should fix the problem. It did not of course, the light came back on this time he said sounded like my fuel pump was the only problem. reset again this time the light came back on, but the car would not crank. Got it back to the shop this time he says oil is in my muffler so i need an engine. I am no mechanic, but i know something is really crazy with this story.

Did you by chance mean - P0491-AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, that would be a valid code.

It relates to the air injection pump that sends extra air into the exhaust system to help the converter work.

I would probably look for a different shop.

Okay, That code is saying that the air pump is not working properly. They put that pump basically under the car and they get water in them and fail, very common.

What it is supposed to do is pull air from the air cleaner and pump it to the exhaust so the converter can burn off the bad chemicals and give cleaner emissions.
My thoughts are to open the air intake ducts and see if you have oil in them from a bad PCV system, it is also common.

If the engine runs okay and that is the only item wrong, it should not need an engine. Probably needs a replacement pump and cleaning of the air intake system. Plus testing the PCV parts.
