When the transmission is shifted into reverse the engine stalls?

The vehicle just stopped, so towed it home, replaced the distributor. Started and then when you put it in reverse it turns off.

It sounds like you have an internal transmission failure. Can I ask if it shut off immediately or does it slowly slow down and then shut off. Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so I can hear the noise? That way I can tell for sure what's going on. You can upload it here with your response.
