Found the top shaft bushing wore out so I replaced the distributor with one I purchased on Amazon sold by A-Premium.
Also upgraded to 10mm wires and iridium plugs. Set timing as recommended and now it has a spark knock, backed timing up which helped but still has the spark knock. No check engine lights or codes. Can a faulty distributor cause this?

Hi,

The actual ignition timing can't be adjusted. It is preset at the factory. However, if you are getting a ping, it could be related to what is called a crossfire issue. In this case, the camshaft retard offset needs adjusted. Basically, it is the same way you likely already have done it.

You will need a live data scan tool to do it. If you look below, I attached the directions. Let me know if you have already done it this way.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

I am so sorry, I sent information for a 97. Totally my fault,

Timing should be set at 0°TDC with the advance wire disconnected (tan wire with black tracer). Was that disconnected prior to setting the timing?

I attached the directions below.

Let me know,

Joe
