car will not start, it cranks. new distributor, where should the rotor be pointing to what cylinder?

Things have to be "set right" before you can put the distributor in.

Then you must point it correctly too.

Seeings that the engine has been turned and probably no marking was done when it was pulled, I am guessing you will be starting from scratch to get it right.
