I was trying to get the nut out of the neutral safety switch shaft but it was really rusted. Trying to get the nut out now the nut and the stud spins together. How do I fix this problem? Do I have to open the transmission?

Good afternoon,

Can you post some pictures of what yu see?

I attached the procedure with pictures. At what step are you having trouble?

Roy

TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FN4A-EL]
1. Remove the battery duct and battery cover.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the under cover.

Caution: Water or foreign material entering the connector can cause a poor connection or corrosion. Be sure not to drop water or foreign material on the connector when disconnecting it.

4. Disconnect the TR switch connector.

5. Remove the clip and disconnect the selector cable.

Caution: Do not use an impact wrench. Hold the manual shaft lever when removing the manual shaft nut, or the transaxle may be damaged.

Can you get to the back and hold the shaft so the nut can come off?

But if a whole thing is spinning does it mean that something broke inside the transmission or is normal if the stud spins with the nut? This was just a picture that I downloaded just to show what part was spinning but the nut still on I can't get it off because is spins freely. Thanks for your help.

No, it should not spin free. There is a notch that keeps in locked to the shaft.

You will have to get that off before you can access the damage.

Get the nut off and pull off the piece and send me more pictures.
