neutral safety switch

My new neutral safety switch came already set in the neutral position does this mean i have to place car in neutral to install with parking brakes up i donot have the alignment tool everyone said put car in park but the neutral safety switch came set in neutral position my 2002 ford focus is automatic transmission sohc engine 2.0spi

put the car in neutral to install it there may be a pin you have to pull out of switch once installed
