Good afternoon,

This sounds like a timing issue if it backfires through the exhaust.

What have you done so far?

I would start with a compression test to see if the timing chain slipped.

Hello,

Your vehicle's Power-train Control Module (PCM) "computer" controls all aspects of the ignition system for your vehicle. It does however use input values from various sensors to determine it;s ignition map. If you could check and see if there is a problem with the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). This is the main sensor that your vehicle's PCM uses on startup for the ignition system.
I have included in the diagrams below a description of your vehicle's ignition system, basic ignition testing, and testing guide for your CKP sensor. Please go through them and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
