Good morning,

There is a sensor for the engine temperature on the front of the driver's side head.

I attached a picture for you to view. This is the most common reason for the gauge not working.

Okay, but when I plug my scanner in to the OBD2 diagnostic connector it reads the engine temperature. That's why I thought the cht sensor was okay and it had to be the ECT on the intake it has both?

If it is reading engine temperature on the scan tool, then you either have wiring issue from the ECM to the dash or the cluster is bad.

I tried a used cluster that was working in the other truck and it didn't fix problem. then I jumped the two wires at the engine cooling sensor and the gauge pegged to hot so I assumed the wiring was okay.

The yellow and red wire is it the ground wire?

No, neither are grounds. The sensor has 5 volts going to it and the other is a return signal wire to the PCM. Then the PCM sends a signal to the dash for the gauge.

Do you have a scan tool that can read engine temperature?

Yes I do. But what is the voltage for red with white wire at ECT sensor unplugging with key on. And same question for yellow with red wire?

I know I need to test wiring from PCM to gauge cluster, but have no information on test procedure and no information for pin location for connector at PCM and gauge cluster.

Okay, I attached a diagram for you to view.

This is not something you can test with a voltmeter. The only thing you can do is to check the connector at the back of the cluster. The controls for the gauge are in the solid state unit in the cluster.

That is the only image of the cluster. As I stated before, there is nothing you can check internally as it is controlled by a microprocessor in the cluster itself.

Okay, thank you for your time. I just was hoping for a link or a web sight that I could look up images on my own.

You could go to Alldata.com and get a one day pass or longer and get all the information you want. Well worth it.
