Name this part that was damaged in an accident

My teen wrecked his car this week and damaged the undercarriage pretty bad. My husband pulled this part out from under the car, but we don't know what it's for. Any idea?

It looks like a washer fluid tank to me. Is there a symbol on the black plastic cap on the top of the bottle?
