If standing in front of vehicle on right side back near the throttle body you have to take air cleaner cover off to see it. There is a small round canister like 1 inch round it has 2 lines that come off of it. Sometimes when I start the truck it makes a combustion like a pop sound and every time the cap on the small round canister comes off and when it does the idle goes crazy. Does anyone know the name of that small canister? Thanks

Welcome to 2CarPros.

I attached two pictures. One may contain the item you are looking for. Picture 1 shows the PCV valve and the second is the brake booster vacuum tube. Either of these will cause a major vacuum leak and cause the idle to go crazy.

Let me know if I got the right thing. I circled both components in the pictures.

A crankcase ventilation system is used to provide scavenging of the crankcase vapors. Blow-by gases are passed through a crankcase ventilation oil/air separator into the air cleaner outlet resonator. The oil/air separator is inside the valve cover and allows any scavenged oil to be returned to the crankcase. Here is the location in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

The PCV should be in the valve cover, but I believe that after 98 that motor no longer has one.

Look on top of the valve cover. There should be a knob sticking out with a small diameter rubber hose attached to it. It will be inserted in a rubber grommet. You can just pull it out of the valve cover

How do I change the pcv valve and where exactly is it located? Do I have to remove the valve cover in order to replace it?

Hi:
The PC located on the valve cover. It is on the outside of the cover, and you don't need to remove the cover.

If you have any other questions, let me know.
