Transmission only has drive and park

Reverse tries to go forward sometimes and neutral through first is nothing but drive. I bought a transmission control solenoid but do not know where to install it at.

The solenoid pack is on the front of the transmission, right above the pan, and under a rubber cover.

It is unlikely that is going to solve the issue. Have you had the diagnostic fault codes read and recorded? You will need to find a mechanic with a scanner that can access the transmission computer to read those codes.
