Hi,
When this happens, does the check engine light flash on and off before turning off completely? If that is the case, it is an indication of a misfire. Often times it could be a simple spark plug or even an ignition coil.
What I need you to do is have the computer scanned for diagnostics trouble codes. This way we can narrow it down to the specific cylinder or cylinders causing the issue.
Here is a video showing how it's done:

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but oftentimes, most parts stores will do it for free. If possible, have that done and let me know what is found.
Also, it is very important to keep the oil serviced on a regular basis. These vehicles have something called variable valve timing. It is controlled by oil pressure. Dirty oil can cause issues. So, it is a good idea to keep it clean.
Let me know if you are able to have the computer scanned and what codes are found. That way, I can focus on specific issues.
Take care and let me know.
Joe
