My engine developed a valve tap that I can't seem to get rid of.

I dropped a small washer into #6 cylinder while replacing the lower o-ring gaskets. It disintegrated to powder and I removed as much as possible, but some must have eluded me and caused the valve to "stick". Is there anything I can do, short of replacing the head, to stop the tapping?
