My coolant low light came on then went off. I checked to see if it was low and it is and the lid was not on tightly. so my question is; can I put just water in it just so I can make it to store to get the coolant and is it possible that the reason it is low was cause the lid was not on tightly?

cooling systems require the cap to be tight to maintain correct pressure as this is important in maintaining correct engine coolant temperature. coolant can escape from a loose cap, but as a precaution, i would be getting a cooling system pressure test done. this is a simple test to check for any external coolant leaks, this test can often be done as you wait.
