My check engine light is on after incorrectly trying to jump start a friend's car

Jump started a friend's car tonight. The jumper cables were put on the wrong terminals on my battery and there was sparking as the connection was made. The cables remained connected incorrectly for over a minute. Cables were reversed and friend's car was jump started however afterwards my check engine light came on and has remained on for the last 45 minutes. Would appreciate any thoughts or advice as how to proceed.

Check all fuses with a test light but most likely you have damaged computers on board. This is just the start of your problems. Never, never jump start anyones car.

Start with the codes? We need those numbers
