We tried towing our vehicle because it would not start. We towed it backwards and set it in park after towing, once we try to shift gears again the gear lever would not move. We think the vehicle might have been in drive instead of park while towing it backwards. Does this mean we need a new transmission? How can this be fixed?

I realize I said park instead of neutral , what I meant to say we might have set it in drive instead of neutral.

Was it towed because the battery was dead? If you have no battery power, the shift interlock won't release.
