So my suburban starts up and runs fine at idle and also when running up the RPMs. But when I drive it it just shuts itself off and won’t start back up for 15-20 minutes. Please help anyone. My family and I are on vacation. Vehicle listed above is a 1500.

So sorry that this is happening on vacation.

Are you able to get to a parts store as we are going to need some tools? they will have not only a small set of hand tools or wrenches that you can purchase but also the testing equipment that will need to cross off the most common things.

More than likely we are going to have to check the fuel pressure as it sounds like the fuel may not be sufficient enough to handle the load of driving but can idle just fine.

If the fuel pressure is okay, the next likely thing would be a crank sensor. This does not make sense in the fact that it does not care if you are in gear or not but the fact that it will not restart for about 20 minutes does match this issue.

Here are a couple guides that help with this:

Lastly I am wondering if the engine is getting flooded. When it stalls and will not restart, can you try and do a clear flood start? This means you hold the accelerator to the floor and crank the engine. In doing this, you will cut the injectors while the engine is cranking and if it starts it is due to there being too much fuel.

This means we have a possible sensor issue causing the air fuel ratio to be incorrect or even an injector sticking open.

Below is the process for the crank sensor in case that proves out.

However, the first thing I would do if you can get to the parts store is ask that they scan for codes. If we have codes then that will take us in the right direction.

Thanks and let us know what you find with this and we can go from there.
