I have a Hatchback he ABS light
now stays on. I had the dealer check it out and he said the ABS sensor
needs to be replaced. He said when it is replaced it sometimes also means
replacing wheel bearings which can get expensive (about $800.00 for the job if
bearings also need to be replaced). Question, can I just forget about ABS
and not fix it?

Hello, Danny again.
It is a safety issue just like your gas pedal. You always want your braking system operating at peak performance. ABS systems are designed to optimize braking even during the most severe conditions (weather-road conditions, etc). I believe the mechanic quoted you the high price in case the hub/bearing assembly is bad. The brake rotor has to be removed to gain access to the sensor. Once the brake rotor is off he will be able to inspect the hub/bearing assembly (picture attached) and determine if it needs to be replaced. Hope this helps and again thanks for using 2CarPros.
