Hi,

I have to be honest. I only would recommend using an engine from the same year make and model. Because of electronics on the vehicle, if you change the engine type, everything has to change with it. It always leads to a headache.

I am dealing right now with a CM vehicle that had a newer engine installed and was the same size. The sensors, locations of sensors, and how they work are all different. Basically, the entire wiring harness, control modules, and so on are going to need to be replaced. Anything can be done, but to what expense. That is the problem.

If you do decide to install a new engine in the vehicle, I attached the directions and pictures below specific to your vehicle for removal and replacement.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions or need help.

Take care,

Joe

Looking at the interchange info it appears that 2003-2008 1.8s out of a Vibe or a Toyota Matrix (same car GM bought them from Toyota) will work, However they have to be from a front wheel drive (AWD uses a different block and mounting) and have option code LV6 for the common version, If yours is the higher option version it uses a different optional engine, Still a 1.8 but code LNK. To tell which you have look at the 6th digit in the VIN number, 8 is the LV6 while L is the LNK engine. Then specify its for front wheel drive.

It may say it's a Camry but the same things as above apply. It is either the 1ZZ-FE - LV6 1.8 or the 2ZZ-GE - LNK 1.8. From 2003-2008.
