Was wondering if a 10W40 motor oil would work in a 24hp Briggs and Stratton engine on my craftsman lawn mower? Manual calls for Sae 30. Store is sold out.

Hi,

Normally, we only handle automobile issues but this is pretty straight forward and oil is oil.

Unfortunately, 10W40 does't meet the same standard that SAE 30 does. Basically, the 10W40 will not lubricate properly at operating temp as it is to thick and does not thin out well enough when hot.

Hopefully this helps. Thanks
