Motor mount vibration in drive position

Replace the front motor mount but I saw you on a forum. How do you adjust the front motor mount? It vibrates in drive if I put it in neutral it doesn’t vibrate. Once I put it back in drive it’s vibrating the whole steering wheel on my car. I have to change the left motor mount on my passenger side and in the rear motor mount. Would that help my car or do I have to change the all motor mounts and transmission mounts?

Hello this is Tom,

No, you probably don't have to change them all. Most likely one has completely failed which put strain on the rest of them and what I've found on those just one other begins to show more wear. Do a good inspection of the front and rear ones for the rubber to be ripped or cracked. If you see cracks in them they should be changed. There should be no play on them so I you take a pry bar find a place around the mount your checking and and try to move the motor and if the mount you looking at has excessive movement it I bad or going bad. Here are the other mounts with rubber on them, these are the ones you are going to want to check for play and movement. The upper passenger one that a type of solenoid, is that's the one you replaced?

No, the one I changed is the front bottom one under the manifold and I looked at the rear one it looks bad like my front one. As soon I took my front one off the top of it fell right off.

Yes, that sounds like you got the money out of that part for sure, lol. That being the case all the ones with rubber are getting that extra energy and weakening them. The big upper front one is the one that gets the most energy and if the seal inside goes it may look okay but not be. Does that upper front one look oily?

I changed the front one it’s the one in the rear by the fire wall looks all oily.

Hello,

Oil on the rear one will be an engine leak not the mount failing, only the one that has oil inside is the upper front. Do a good inspection on the ones that have rubber and verify they a tight. Change the ones that show wear and are loose. Look to see the how the bushing are that hold your steering rack to just in case seeing you have the vibration in the steering wheel as well.

Hi,

In your pictures it looks to me like the 4th and the 6th pic show a crack in the rubber. It's kind of hard to see enough though. If you can get a long regular screwdriver in to the top (pic two) shows it good where you can get good leverage see if putting pressure on the engine side watch that crack line and see if it moves. Another good way to be checking them is to get a small piece of 2x4, and put it on the jack so you can jack up the motor where the engine meets the trans-axle. You can jack up that spot just a little. Just put enough pressure on it to hold the weight of the engine up slightly relieving the pressure on all the mounts then get a good grab on the top of the motor and shake the engine back and forth. If there is play you should be able to see and feel the ones that are bad.
