White smoke is a sign of burning coolant due to a leaking cylinder head gasket. To verify that you will notice the level dropping in the reservoir. You can add a small bottle of dark purple dye, then search later with a black light. The dye will show up as a bright yellow stain. If you find it inside the tail pipe, the cylinder head gasket is leaking.
