I have 2002 Mits Eclipse GS with 110,000 miles

Just had a brand new radiator and thermostat installed. Now smelling strong fumes of burning antifreeze from under the hood. The fumes are not leaking into the car however. Just a strong smell that radiates from the car after parking.

Plus the temperature gauge will occasionally jump past the middle mark, but then will always come right back down.

What could be the problem? Are these fumes dangerous?

Thank you very much.

well, it may be coolant that spilled on the block and is now burning off. the temp gauge jumping back and forth may be from the engine coolant temp sensor being faulty, or an air pocket in the system. the fumes can be dangerous, but as long as you have some ventilation, you should be fine
