Q. 1995 Mitsubishi Galant ES with AT, do I need to Remove the engine to remove the water pump?
I seen one reply to this same Q but I dont see how this can happen just by slightly lifting the motor.
I did slighltly have to lift the engine just to gain access to the upper pulley bolts. About 2 1/2 " in all.
I have removed a great deal of stuff to gain as much access to the pump as I can but Now it seems that I need to remove the Timing belt Black plastic cover to gain access to the remaining water pump bolts and looks like to me that there may well be a few inslde this cover?
I removed the D/S Engine mount to lift the engine up slightly but still cant get the Timing cover off and seems that the harmonic balancer (lower Crank Pulley) needs to come off as well to remove the cover to gain access to the water pump bolts. Is this true as well? And if not true how do I remove the Timing cover and lower pulley with engine still in car?
Am I doing this all wrong or will the engine need to either be removed or lifted to such a high point as to clear the strut tower to gain access to remove the lower pullie?
Sorry I just dont know and need some good advice. This is my first import FWD I have worked on and its got me a bit confused.
Thanks
Tom A.
