I've checked the fuses and replaced bulbs but my break lights don't work on my 2000 mitsubishi montero. They will sometimes work for 15 or 20 minutes and then go back out. I don't know where to begin to look. My tail, reverse, blinkers, and flashers all work.

Try checking the brake switch which is located on the brake pedal. Sometimes these switches can be adjusted depending on the car. If not then you may have a bad switch. In this case you will need to replace the switch.
