My montero was running normal, then within 5 min, I began to loose power, the dash lights dimmed and eventually went out, the radio went out, and the engine started seriously stalling. There were also very loud "clanging" noises. The engine was extremely HOT. (All fluids were fine, I put a new alternator in Oct 06, a new sillanoid in Jan 07, and a new transmission and spark plugs within the past 5 years.) When the engine finally died, I tried to re-crank, and all I got was a clicking noise. I went back today, jumped the battery, and drove it home, but there was still no lights on the dash, and the engine began to heat up once I almost made it home and the engine died again. There were still rattling noises under the hood. All this also caused the battery to loose it's charge. Any suggestions? Could it be a fuel filter, or something with intake?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Takeing a shot in the dark here. If you hear loud clanking (like someone is shooting the bottom of your hood with a gun lol ) and your dash lights dim out.

Check your timeing belts. I tore 2 off my old Honda and rev'ed up the engire to like 5 Rpm by mistake ( on first gear) and tore those off and the same things happend to me.
