1995 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0l non-turbo. Here’s my problem, I just picked this car up cheap. I was told it had a blown head gasket and in deed it did, I also found that there was a knock in the motor after I started it up when work was done. I replaced the rod bearing, I have done 2 oil changes to remove excess residue from the head gasket issue. On my first attempt to drive the car (ever), I found that as soon as it heats to normal temps the RPM’s surge and then stalls and will not start until it cools. Help. Work done: head gasket, rod bearings, oil pan gasket, vacuum lines, EVAP Canister, timing checked and rechecked, all fuses still good. I am at a loss. Need help!

Have someone checkout the coolant temp sensor or remove plug and jump it with a paper clip and see if problem goes away if so replace sensor. Have you tested the coil? If not I would before you spend anymore money throwing parts at it.
