This is a low milage, seldom driven, garage kept convertible. We had just replaced the belts and mounted them a little snug for stretching during break-in. After mounting the belts the car sat for about a month. When we started it up there was a definite clanking, grinding noise. Shut it off immediately and on lifting the hood we could see the belts had come off and the main pulley was no longer in line with the other pulleys. Further inspection revealed the oustside pulley ring on the crankshaft pulley has separated from the inner part of the pulley. Question: What exactly is involved in removing the main crankshaft pulley?

The name for the pully is Harmonic Balancer and the way I found best to change it was to pull the bolts out of the motor mounts use a floor jack and lower the engine so the pully is below the frame rail. There is a tool needed to take the Balancer off called a Harmonic Balancer puller you can buy this at any parts house. The tool will have some bolts that will bolt into the pully and you will turn the tool with a wrench and it will pull it off. To install the new just press the new on as far as you can by hand. Then take the bolt that holds the pully on and use it to pull the pully into place as you tighten the bolt becareful not to cross thread the bolt. Then jack up the motor install the motor mount bolts. Then install your belts and your done. If you need more info e-mail me and I will be glad to help.
