Noises problem
1995 Other Mitsubishi Models 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180+ miles

Ive got a tapping noise in my engine and ive asked online and they suggested an oil change which I just had 2months ago. And they suggested to add additives to thicken the oil or use straight 30w oil. Ive put additives but the noise is still there after the car heats up or been driven for like 30mins. Its annoying. Do you have ideas of what to do or how I can fix this problem without taking it to a meachanic and save me money?

Hi speckz,
Can you give a little bit more details about the engine number and chassis as well?
Where exactly are you hearing the noise. Is it from the top part of the engine? Do you hear it when you suddenly throttle up or at idle?
Cheers

All I have is the chassis number on the purchase papers. It doesnt state an engine number just the engine type. Engine type 2.6 4 cyl and the chassis number is 6MMTS4D41ST53181. It sounds like its from the top part. Someone suggested that it might be the hydraulic lifters coz magnas dont have valves. I just need abit more info before I go jumping into things. When the car heats up or when driven for 30mins, that noise only appears when I dont have my foot on the gas pedal. When I rev or put it in neutral or park I dont hear it. Suddenly when I put it in reverse or drive with pushing the gas pedal I hear it. It appears when I turn my car on when its cold as well.

Hi, Magnas are kowm as well to have noisy timing chain. I'm preety sure your car has one and it might be a noisy chain and worn guides. Let me know if this helps you locate the noise better.
Cheers.
