Smells problem
1991 Other Mitsubishi Models 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I TOOK THE CAR TO AN ELECTRICIAN TO CHECK WHAT WAS WRONG. HE SAID COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. AND OTHER PARTS WERE CHANGED AS WELL WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHEN YOU PUT A CAR ON THE COMPUTER TO CHECK WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR IS IT SUPPOSED TO TELL YOU EVERY PROBLEM THAT THE CAR HAS? IF YES IS THE MECHANIC RESPONSIBLE TO FIX IT WITHOUT CHARGING AGAIN?BECAUSE THATS WHY YOU TAKE TO THE MECHANICS IS FOR THEM TO TELL YOU WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. WE TOOK CAR HOME AFTER 5 MINUTES OF STARTING THE CAR I NOTICE A SMELL LIKE SOMETHING BURNING AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE COMES OUT FROM THE FRONT.I WAS TOLD THAT PROBABLY IT WAS JUST A LITTLE BIT OF OIL THAT WAS LEFT WHEN HE CHANGED THE OIL BUT IS BEING TWO OR THREE WEEK BUT I STILL SMELL IT. ALSO THE FAN IS NOT WORKING AND HE DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE IT?COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM? IF NOT WHAT COULD BE I ALREADY SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY. THATS WHY I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG AND WHETHER THE COMPUTER WAS SUPPOSED TO SHOW THE PROBLEM?IS HE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OIL BECAUSE BEFORE WE TOOK THE CAR THERE IT DIDN`T HAVE THAT SMELL. PLEASE I REALLY NEED A GOOD ADVICE. IM A SINGLE MUM OF 3 AND I CANT AFFORD IT ANY MORE. IF HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE THEN HOW MUCH MORE IS IT GOING TO COST?.I REALLY HOPE YOU CAN HELP HOPE TO HEAR FRO YOU SOON. THANKS.

Hi gav18,

The computer diagnosis would only tell you the electrical operations and functions and which are bad.

Mechanical faults like oil leakages are not shown.

The mechanic doing the job could have checked and inform you of any others that requires attention and they are separate issues.

The fan would not work if the Ac is not turned on or if the engine is not hot enough.

If the smell is still there, get it back to the mechanic to have a look. Something could be leaking after the oil change and it could be due to poor workmanship.

If it is a chargeable job, I would suggest going to a new place, the present one is not professional enough.
