I just bought a 1991 mitsubishi eclipse gsx. 2.0 turbo dohc, 139000 on chassis, rebuilt motor and a stage 2 clutch. About 20 miles of driving the car I came to a stoplight and pressed the clutch pedal and brakes but the car died. (Kinda like if I just pushed the brakes and not the clutch) but the repair manual says that I should have a half inch of play in the pedal but I have about 4 inches o play. Would that have anything to do with this problem?

Yes. If there is an adjustment on the rod under the dash, give it the req'd free-play. If that doesnt fix it, could be a slightly bent disc from the engine install

The parts store said that there is too much free play and it is probably a bad pressure plate, what do you think?

My bad, I misunderstood about the free play. Sounds like it could very well be the pressure plate if it is full of hydraulic fluid and there is no air in the system

Ok. I changed the clutch with a brand new one. I adjusted the freeplay under the dash but I still have the same problem and no pressure. What makes the pressure master cylinder or release. Thats all I ccan think of
