The engine revs, misses, cuts out at start and initial idle when started cold......seems to be more severe, the colder it is. Once the engine reaches normal operating temperature......it runs fine....

worn spark plugs can misfire when cold. The plugs on a Montero are hard to access, thus, they may be original. Try pulling the easiest to get to and check if it's gapped out.
