What is going on with Mitsubishi's electrical system! I have checked several message boards that express the same problem I am having. I have a 1999 Montero and have had to replace the alternator twice and the battery 3 times. I have read all sort of things that I should do. Unfortunately I am not finding the same advice for this problem. I am hoping that you have heard of these burnt out alternator and battery occurrences. Please tell me what to do.

Thanks you in advance for your help.

Is it under charging or overcharging?

I have heard of PCM problems with this situation. Also the brand of alternater can be significant. I would suggest USA, Napa premium orWorld wide on this one.

What brand alternater are you using?

Testing an alternater:

Some parts stores will do this as well.

FYI there seems to be an ongoing investigation into the mysterious oil leaks that keep causing alternator failures in Mitsubishi's Monteros. Based on my online research, anyone having this problem should have their mechanic check: camshaft, crankshaft front seals, all connections
are clean and in good condition, earth connections, alternator belt is it too loose, too tight or cracked, air conditioner belt, fuse box located near battery, slipping drive belt (it turns the alternator), and diode.

Also, if your alternator is 10 years old or older it probably just needs replacing.
