1998 Mitsubishi Montero stalls

My car stalls when I brake. Last time it done this I replaced battery cables ad it stopped. I cleaned the cables, and used gas treatment and its still stalling?

My wifes montero used to stall sometimes and it was an oil leak getting into the alternator and killing it. Put a new alternator in and made a shield to protect it from the oil (until I can fix the leak) and no more stalling problems. Also, her car will die for about a week after I disconnect the battery while the computer relearns some settings.
