1998 Mitsubishi Montero 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

CAR STARTED JERKING,LOST POWER,MISSFIRE, I WENT TO SHOP, THEY SAY IT NEEDS A VALVE JOB, THAT IT HAS BURNED VALVES IN TWO CYLINDERS, HOW CAN THEY TELL FOR SURE THAT IS THE PROBLEM, AND NOT SOMETHING SIMPLE.

they probably did a compression test and thats how they would tell
