1995 Mitsubishi Mirage does not go into any gear

hello, my question is what would cause my car to suddenly act as if i put it into nuetral while going about 25mph? the car starts fine but nothing at all happens when the shifter is moved to either forward or reverse, the linkage arm on the top of trans, moves with the shifter. any info will be greatly appriciated.

First thing to do is check the fluid level & condition, also get scan done to check for any set fault codes, as this could be a valve problem with in the transmission, a service & report by a trans specialist will also be a good idea as they will be able to carry out a series of diagnostic tests on the transmission to help pin point the fault, start here.
