My carburator choke door doesn't always open or close like it should, and using ether to prime it caused me to burn up the new starter I had just replaced. Is there another way I could prime the carburetor to ensure a quick start? I am unable to afford repairing the existing carb, at the moment, and need my truck for work.

Try cleaning choke linkage with Carb cleaner may just be gumed up and won't close.
