When is the timing belt supposed to be replaced?

Also, how long can you safely drive without replacing it without having major issues with the engine?

The car is not having any problems and runs/drives just great.

The timing belt was due at 60K you should never drive over the recommended maintenance replacement schedule, as if it fails you will do serious damage to the engine, i would be getting it done ASAP.
