2000 Mitsubishi Galant Make a noise upon backing up

My 2000 Galant I just noticed only makes a noise when I back up. Not a grinding noise and it only makes it when I back up once I am in gear all is fine.
A friend thinks it is my brakes but I am not pushing on my brake when backing up?

Can you help? Im afraid it my transmission

Hi there,

best to check the brakes to be safe, it may be the wear tabs starting to make contact.
