1999 Mitsubishi Galant automatic gear

I am having automatic transmission type gear, but after puting gear lever on D drive transmisson of gear is not working properly. Some time engine is running but gear is not changing properly
my mechanic is saying your carburator need to clean.
i just want to know if transmisson having some problem then why our mechanic wants to clean carburetor?
Is there is any switch for auto transmission. Please give need full advise

Hi, First I'd Check The Trans fluid, Make Sure It's full.I Would ask You Next, Does the Engine Run Good, not misfiring Or surging?If It Does Run Good, Then I'd Have The Trans Checked At A Trans Shop. SomeTimes A Engine Problem Can Cause You To Think It's the Trans. Bad Ignition Plugs And Wires Can Cause This. Also A Vacumn leak. As for Cleaning The carb. I would wait on that.
