1996 Mitsubishi Galant Exhaust Leak?

1996 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl Automatic 145000 miles

I think I have an exhaust leak. Within the past week, my car has been drinkin gas because I have to pratically floor it to get it to accelerate at all. How do I know for sure if it is an exhaust leak and what do I need to do to fix it?

Is it louder than usual? You may have other problems. Is the check engine light on? Or flashing?

There aren't really any loud noises. And my engine light isn't on. The only thing I've noticed is that when I try to accelerate, I have to almost floor it and the needle barely creeps up.

Have the timing checked, the belt may have slipped a tooth. Compression test too!
