1992 Mitsubishi Galant Will not go in drive or overdrive

We replaced the engine and can not get the trans to go into drive or overdrive The overdrive indicator does work on the dash and indicate that it is in overdrive but the trans stay in second gear.

Hi rteklund, Thank you for the donation. When sensors are not correctly plugged in, loose or faulty, the transmisision would be locked in 3rd gear, limp mode and it would not shift gear. You need to go into diagnostics to know what is wrong to rectify it. I have the procedures here for you.
